The NHCTE is in affiliate region # 1.  Leadership meetings for our region will occur in July of 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. 

Every three years, an officer who is acting as our NCTE Liaison/Director must attend the business meeting at the national convention. NHCTE must be represented at the following conventions: 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019.

Duties & Responsibilities*

*Note: Every board member must be a current member of the NCTE.

President

 

  • Plan, organize and facilitate executive board meetings
  • Secure meeting place for executive board meetings
  • Prepare an annual budget for board approval.
  • Support work of committees.
  • Act as official host of conferences, conventions and workshops
  • Prepare Annual Affiliate's Report for NCTE which includes the following:
    • Roster of Officers (president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and NCTE liaisons/representatives) with the following information: Name of officer, Title of position, Term of position, Full address (home and school if available), Telephone numbers, Preferred e-mail.
    • Roster Statement Form 
    • Affiliate Directors Form  which confirms the affiliate officer(s) who will be attending the Board of Directors Meeting at NCTE's Annual Convention in November---meeting at 5:30 p.m. on the Friday of Convention. All affiliates must be represented at the meeting at least once every three years.
    • Policy of Involvement of People of Color:  NCTE encourages all affiliates to have a Policy on Involvement of People of Color.  If your affiliate has a policy, please include the policy in your annual report. If your affiliate does not have such a policy, please consider adopting one this year.  View NCTE's policy as a model.
  • When preparing the annual report, visit the NCTE's list of affiliates and update the NHCTE's affiliate abstract. This information is used by all NCTE web visitors to locate their local affiliates.  Renewing NCTE members and new NCTE members are urged to join their local affiliates and are sent to this list to locate them.

  • Assist and support president with duties and responsibilities

  • Record & report/publish minutes of executive board meeting
  • Record & report/publish minutes of general session during affiliate conferences/conventions
  • Assist in preparation of Annual Affiliate's Report for NCTE by:
    • Regularly submitting executive board meeting minutes to the NCTE Affiliate Director at      < affsec@ncte.org > 
    • Regularly submitting other affiliate documents such as newsletters, journals,  membership brochures,   special publications and  conference programs to the NCTE Affiliate Director at  < affsec@ncte.org > 
Liaison Officer to NEATE
  • Maintain communications with executive board of NEATE.
  • Advise executive board and affiliate members of upcoming NEATE events.
  • Publicize upcoming NEATE events.
  • Attend NEATE fall conference.
Liaison Officer to NCTE

Attend the Board of Directors Meeting at NCTE's Annual Convention in November---meeting at 5:30 p.m. on the Friday of Convention. All affiliates must be represented at the meeting at least once every three years. NHCTE must be represented at the following conventions: 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019.

  • Regularly update and maintain the affiliate website: www.nhcte.org
  • Solicit, edit, format and publish articles for digital and print publications
  • Work with other NHCTE committees to ensure that our publications (digital and print) participate in the NCTE Information Exchange Agreement, an agreement enabling participating affiliates, assemblies, and TYCA Regionals to use writing and artwork from one another's publications providing they cite the source of the writing or artwork and send two copies of the publication with the reprinted writing or artwork to the editor of the publication that originally printed the material. 
  • Include the NCTE Division of Communications & Affiliate Services < affsec@ncte.org >  in any publication's mailing list.  
  • Send a copy of affiliate publications to the region # 1 representative on the Standing Committee on Affiliates.
State Coordinator: NCTE Academic Achievement Awards for Writing

Teacher of the Year Committee

Facilitate the NHCTE teacher of the year program by completing the following tasks:

  • Solicit nominations - see Application Process.
  • Gather and organize completed nomination portfolios and nominee information.
  • Organize and chair committee meetings for portfolio evaluation and subsequent visitations. See the following resources:

  • Communicate with nominees, honorees, finalists and teacher of the year.
  • Purchase award certificates, plaques, etc. ....
  • Complete nomination process for the NHCTE's teacher of the year to be eligible for the NCTE's High School Teacher of Excellence AwardThis award is given to high school teachers who are nominated by their state affiliates. All state, provincial, regional, and local affiliates can participate.  Deadline May 1.
State Curator: National Gallery of Writing

Create and maintain a state gallery within the National Gallery of Writing. Promote the National Day of Writing (in October each year) and encourage teachers and students to submit work to the gallery. Support NHCTE workshops which utilize the National Gallery of Writing.
