Application Process for Nominees

Teachers who have been nominated for recognition as the NHCTE Teacher of the Year will be contacted by the NHCTE Teacher of the Year committee.

Once contacted, the nominee should review the application process (below) as well as the evaluation criteria and awards and recognitions for nominees.

A nominee must be an active, certified teacher in good standing and also a member in good standing of the New Hampshire Council of Teachers of English. (Nominees can join the NHCTE by following directions posted here.) A nominee must also have at least five years of full time English teaching experience (any level) not including the current year.

The nominee must complete a nomination portfolio which must include:

  • a completed nomination portfolio cover sheet (download here)
  • an updated and current resume or curriculum vita
  • three letters of recommendation from a combination of parents, students, administrators, and colleagues; each letter should address the areas identified in the portfolio criteria
  • evidence of the following:
    •  knowledge of his or her discipline and dedication to lifelong learning
    • ability to challenge and stimulate students in active exploration
    • ability to integrate English/language arts with other fields and disciplines
    • interest and concern for students and their work
    • capacity to inspire and motivate others
    • membership and involvement in professional organizations (NHCTE and/or NEATE and/or NCTE)
    • involvement in professional development activities
    • positive impact on the teaching profession.

Note: Nomination portfolio may include digital evidence. The nomination portfolio is customarily submitted as a three-ring binder but it may also be submitted as a digital portfolio (in whole or in part). To ensure readability, digital evidence should be in a universal format (RTF or PDF or HTML).

Completed nomination portfolios must be postmarked on or before March 6, 2012.
